Materials:

  • Sheet metal (copper, aluminum, or stainless steel all work well)
  • Metal cutting shears or jigsaw
  • Drill and drill bits
  • Submersible pump
  • PVC pipe and fittings
  • Aquarium tubing
  • Zip ties
  • Sealant (optional)
  • Reservoir (bucket, plastic tub, etc.)

Let’s Get Building!

  1. Design Your Blade: First things first, grab your sheet metal and unleash your inner artist! Sketch out the design of your water blade. You can go for a classic straight blade, or get fancy with curves or geometric shapes.

  2. Cut with Care: Once you’ve finalized your design, carefully cut out your water blade using your metal shears or jigsaw. Wear safety glasses and be sure to cut on a stable surface.

  3. Channel the Flow: Here comes the magic! Drill a series of holes along the top edge of your water blade. This is where the water will flow out, creating the cascading effect. Experiment with the size and spacing of the holes to achieve your desired water flow.

  4. Pump It Up: Now it’s time to incorporate the pump. Choose a submersible pump with enough power to create a steady flow of water through your blade. Following the pump’s instructions, position it inside your reservoir and connect it to the PVC piping system.

  5. Connect the Dots: Here’s where the PVC comes in. Use the PVC pipes and fittings to create a path for the water to travel from the pump, up to the top of your water blade. Aquarium tubing will connect the final leg from your PVC piping to the underside of your water blade, feeding the water into those drilled holes we created. Secure all connections with zip ties for a watertight fit.

  6. Seal the Deal (Optional): Depending on your chosen material, you might want to add a layer of sealant along the cut edges of your water blade for a more polished look.

  7. Let it Flow! Carefully position your water blade within your reservoir and fill it with water. Turn on your pump and watch your creation come to life!

Bonus Tip: Add some colorful pebbles or small plants around the base of your water blade for an extra touch of visual interest.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the soothing sounds of your very own DIY water blade. You’ve just added a unique and tranquil element to your space!
